5 Creative Bible Study Methods

As we know that studying the bible is one of the ways to spiritual growth. There is no growth without studying God’s word. It’s when we study God’s word that we can meditate and act on it.more

Studying the word should be a priority in our lives.
Just like the way we eat, there are some days you have a delicious meal that you enjoy and there are days when you eat, not because you enjoy it but you know that it is essential for your growth and sustainance, so you eat anyways.

Bible study is also essential for your growth, so on days, you feel like and days you don’t feel like you should still ensure that you study the word.

Let’s dive into the 5 creative methods you can use to study the word to grow in faith.

Character Study
This is when you study the bible based on a character. I recently just finished doing a character study on the life of Jesus. When you do a character study, you have an in-depth look into how the person lived his/her life, their relationship with God, how they handled situations that came their way, how they lived for the purpose of God, and the lessons you can glean on to from their lives.
I particularly like Character study because it helps to see deep into a person and you get to understand that they were humans just like us and they were able to do extraordinary things for God.
With Character study, you can also see the strength and weaknesses of these people and you know how to apply it to your life.
In character study, you observe and learn the dealings of God in a person’s life.

You can do a character study on Moses, Joshua, Peter, Paul, and so on.

Topical Study
In Topical Bible study, you can pick a topic on whatever comes to your heart, what you feel God is currently pointing your attention to, or even what interests you.
You look up all of the scriptures that are mentioned with that topic and you study on it.
For instance, Faith, you can write out all scriptures on faith and study on it.

Book Study
This is also called contextual study, where you study, chapter by chapter, or verse by verse.
This is one bible study method that I enjoy doing because you get to understand what the entire bible verse is saying, from the previous verse to the next verse, you get a deep understanding to the bible verse.
Studying the entire book consists of understanding the historical setting, knowing who it was written to and who wrote it.

Verse Mapping
Verse mapping is beyond just reading but researching everything you can in a verse to study and learn more about what God is saying to you.
With this, you study the historical context of that particular verse to fully come to an understanding of what it means. This involves digging deep into that particular verse. I will probably do a blog post on verse mapping soon

Devotional Study Method
With this method, you can select a short passage of scripture and meditate on it. You put yourself in that biblical scenario asking questions like, what would I say, How will I respond. With this, you read through the passage severally and you personalize it.
Write out the lessons as it applies to you.

Of a truth, there are so many methods of studying the bible, you can also study the bible based on a revelation that God is showing you as it pertains to your life.

I hope this is helpful to you.
